Biography
Dr. Sophia Hu is a board-certified endocrinologist, specializing in medical weight management. Her additional areas of interest include diagnosing and treating weight-related conditions, such as diabetes, thyroid disease, and polycystic ovary syndrome.
Originally from New Jersey, Dr. Hu earned her medical degree and completed her Internal Medicine residency at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. After residency, she came to New York City and completed her fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism Fellowship at NYU School of Medicine. During fellowship, she was voted by the medicine residents to receive the NYU Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology Fellow of the Year Award in recognition of her dedication to teaching and the advancement of the ideals of medicine. In 2016, she was also awarded one of the prestigious Endocrine Fellows Foundation Endocrine Research Grants. Her research has been widely published and she has presented her findings across the United States.
After fellowship, she joined the academic faculty at the Division of Endocrinology at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, where obesity medicine became her focus and passion. At Mount Sinai Beth Israel, Dr. Hu became the Director of the Comprehensive Weight Management Program, using a multidisciplinary approach to help develop individualized plans for patients to lose weight successfully. Subsequently, she joined the academic faculty at the Division of Endocrinology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, specializing in medical weight management while conducting a general endocrine practice. She joined Concorde Medical Group in July 2022 and is specializing primarily in medical weight management, as well as practicing general endocrinology.
Dr. Hu is a compassionate physician who believes in caring for each patient with a personalized approach. She works with her patients to help them identify, reach, and maintain their health goals. She is deeply committed to providing high quality and excellent clinical care to each of her patients. When she is not in the office caring for patients, she enjoys traveling, photography and spending time with her family.
