Veronica Tamara Lerner, MD, FACOG

Biography

Dr. Veronica Lerner earned her medical degree from the University of Colorado and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York in 2002. Following her residency, she pursued a fellowship in pelvic surgery, specializing in Minimally Invasive Surgery and Urogynecology at the Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle.

In 2007, she joined the faculty at the NYU School of Medicine as Director of Simulation in the Department of OB/Gyn, where, as an Associate Professor, she developed academic programs and medical teams and mentored medical students. In 2017, she moved on to Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where she assumed a similar role, building a simulation program for minimally invasive GYN surgery. Through her tenure there, she developed comprehensive multidisciplinary teams and services for patients with endometriosis and fibroids. In 2024, she was promoted to the rank of full professor at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell Health

Dr. Lerner has expertise in advanced laparoscopic, robotically assisted, and vaginal procedures and specializes in treating patients for endometriosis, fibroids, adenomyosis, chronic pelvic pain, other pelvic pain, and bleeding disorders, as well as prolapse and incontinence. Her academic interests include education via simulation and its relationship with quality improvement, advancement of minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, and the quality of surgical care. She has authored multiple publications, including 42 peer-reviewed articles, contributed to 3 textbooks, spearheaded multiple research projects, and serves as a peer reviewer for several journals. She served on the Editorial Board of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Journal and continues to serve as an associate editor for the Simulation in Healthcare Journal. She has received 15 institutional and four nationally recognized teaching awards. She has been actively involved in leadership positions at the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL), Society of Simulation in Healthcare (SSH), SGS (Society of Gynecologic Surgeons), and American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) Simulation Consortium Working Group. Dr. Lerner has been recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor and awarded Best of Manhattan for Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Dr. Lerner is also a Super Doctors® Hall of Fame physician.
