Biography
Dr Sophia Gigos-Costeas is a born and bred New Yorker who has lived her whole life in the New York Metro area. She graduated from Barnard College with a degree in Psychology and attended medical School at SUNY Stony Brook. She completed her Pediatrics residency at Columbia Presbyterian, after which she moved to northern NJ where she raised her 2 children, Christina and Gregory and spent 23 years in private practice. (Christina is currently doing her residency at Columbia Presbyterian and Greg is a musician in Austin, Texas). Once her nest was empty, she returned to live in New York City and to Columbia University, this time to the Mailman School of Public Health, where she completed an Executive Masters in Public Health program.
Prior to joining Gramercy Pediatrics, she worked at Children’s Aid in a variety of roles, including Medical Director, where she guided the Health and Wellness Division through much of the COVID pandemic. She is currently involved in a research project with Children’s Aid and the Hunter School of Urban Public Health, which explores the use of a mobile health platform to combat obesity in inner city children. Additionally, she has done volunteer work with refugees in Greece and worked at McGuire Airforce Base on weekends, taking care of families evacuated from Afghanistan as a part of Operation Allied Refugee. Dr. Gigos-Costeas joined Concorde Medical Group Pediatrics in February 2023!
In her free time, she enjoys reading, cooking, photography, running, paddle-boarding and travel. She is fluent in Spanish and Greek.
